Ok..

So many of you have noticed the issues in the last oh..24-36 hours on the board.. Good news and bad news:

Good: I know where the problem is and how to fix it.. I should be able to fix it tonight or tomorrow

Bad: I know "generally" where the problem is and it's gonna take some more troubleshooting to determine *exactly* which file is being a PITA.

[Nerdspeak:] We have low-level corruption in an SQL table that's causing the SQL daemon to hang and auto-restart (hence the lag spiking) this in turn since it's not giving a good kill signal to the system, is resulting in CPU throttling to avoid high CPU usage issues on the server since we exist in a chrooted environment on the server with other clients of the hosting company. Sooooo.. once I find the corrupt database I can try cloning it and if the corruption carries over, I'll do an export of the data and scrub it before creating a new table and tying it back in to the root DB system that drives the board. [/Nerdspeak]

As a favor, please do not link images directly into the shoutbox until further notice. That especially spikes the SQL daemon (for reasons I won't elaborate on) so we don't want to stress it any more than we currently are.

Rest assured, that even though I'm traveling to FC this evening, I will be working on this on the plane and once I get checked into the hotel.. Just please bear with us for a little bit and we'll get it squared away.

Update: I'm at FC and I just got done for the evening meeting folks and saying Howdy and showing them some of the pictures I took of them. I'm going to stay up a bit and look over the database files and see if I can't narrow down which one is causing the issues.. There are about 60 files, so it will take some time.. bear with me and I'll try to do 20 or so before I go to bed. I'll work on the rest of them tomorrow and Sunday.

Ok.. so when it slows down I know what the issue is and how to fix it now. Apparently it's a bug that's going to be fixed in the next PHPbb release. In the meantime we may switch out the shoutbox if I find an acceptable substitute.

I will be out for the next few days dealing with things. If there's a problem with the board, email me (not PM.. hit the email link under my profile) and it will go to my iPhone and I'll log in and fix the issue.
